I know some Cases of Consumers, who through smoking to excess, have become so debilitated, that premature death was the consequence. To describe a case in point of the former class of smokers, I may mention the case of a compradore in a foreign Opium dealing Hong at Ningpo, who was a miserable specimen of the Class of smokers in question. He was about 40 years of age, emaciated & weak, & could not take his meals. His brain was always confused, with most painful effort for him to move from one place to another.
